Last month, I was reminded just how important our pets truly are. PJ, my 6 year old cat, died unexpectedly from heart failure. I was devastated. Pets are more than just animals, they are family to us. They deserve our unconditional love and care. So how can we take care of them when we decide to travel?
First of all, don’t let your pets stop you from taking the trip of a lifetime. There are many options for taking care of them while you travel.
What We Did
My girlfriend, Nicki, and I were going to be traveling the world for 7-9 months. There’s no way we could take two cats with us. Figuring out what to do with them was more stressful than planning the trip, getting vaccinations, selling our belongings, and packing – all combined.
We started asking our families. My parents already had 2 cats. Her parents weren’t thrilled with the idea. We asked a few close friends, but they all had pets or couldn’t do it.
